Canterbury Cathedral

Canterbury Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Communion and the destination of the medieval Pilgrims' Way. Founded in 597 AD by St Augustine, it became one of Europe's most important pilgrimage sites after the martyrdom of St Thomas Becket in 1170 — immortalised in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. The cathedral's magnificent Romanesque crypt and Gothic quire remain among the finest in Christendom.
